Installation & Maintenance

Installation
  • Torque Specification: 30-35 Nm

  • Some crank / crank boot combinations may require a pedal washer installed on the inboard side of the axle (between your crank arm and the inboard spacer of the pedal)*

  • Pendulum L/R - The widest part of the pedal should be closest to the front of your bike

  • Void L/R - The leading inboard pin should be pointing towards the ground (Void photos on our website are left side pedal)

* The raised portion of the inboard spacer must sit COMPLETELY flat and centered in the recess of your crank arm. If the crank arm is not perfect in any way, a pedal washer can improve the fit.

  • Many carbon cranks require a pedal washer to achieve proper fit
  • If you are using crank boots you may need up to two pedal washers, or remove the boots entirely. This ensures the inboard spacer sits flat and does not contact the crank boot.
Maintenance of Your Outlier Pedals

Our pedals use a very unique bearing design. We run custom 7902 oil-filled bearings to minimize resistance which is especially important for the Pendulum pedals.

Because these bearings are larger, carry different loads, and are more exposed than standard flat pedals, regular maintenance is essential for them to function properly.

Cleaning & Care

  • We recommend routinely removing your pedals, taking out the axle, and wiping down all interfaces to remove moisture and debris. This is especially important to do after wet rides.
  • Bearings can be re-lubricated if needed using a light lubricant (e.g., chain lube)

*  Do NOT pressure wash your pedals, especially around the bearing housing.

Wet Conditions Setup (Optional)

In very wet environments, you can choose to pack the bearings with grease to create a protective barrier against water. This works very well for the Void pedals but may reduce the speed and consistency of
Pendulum pedal self-righting.
